Former cabinet minister Sir Gavin Williamson has been called upon to apologise to MPs for bullying former chief whip Wendy Morton after he was not allocated tickets to the late Queen’s funeral, the Independent Expert Panel has said.
Sir Gavin will also “undergo training to avoid repetition of similar behaviour and increase his awareness of the impact of bullying on others”.
A report into the allegations concluded: “Sir Gavin should make an apology by way of a personal statement to the House and undergo training to avoid a repetition of similar behaviour and increase his awareness of the impact of bullying on others”.
The allegations had related to text messages and a phone call made to Ms Morton in September and October 2022.
She said these had included “threatening, intimidating and undermining behaviour”.
The messages had referred to the allocation of tickets for the late Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey.
Sir Gavin attributed this decision to his having not supported the then-prime minister Liz Truss in the recent leadership election.
The exchange concluded with him saying: “Well lets see how many more times you f*** us all over. There is a price for everything.”
