Harman attacks Labour members who booed Blair
The Labour members who booed the mention of Tony Blair's name during their party conference were wrong to do so, Harriet Harman said this morning.
Speaking on the Andrew Marr programme, the deputy Labour leader and shadow media secretary said many members had felt aggrieved at the way the media had portrayed the incident, which involved only a "tiny, tiny section" of the audience.
Asked whether the boos suggested the Labour party had veered left under Ed Miliband's leadership, Ms Harman said: "I don't think that's true.
"It was a tiny, tiny section of the conference that did a kind of groan at the mention of Tony Blair's name and I think they were wrong to do that and that was not the view of conference as a whole and people were very aggrieved at the way that's been presented."
"I don't think it's particularly left wing to say that people shouldn't be ripped off in their energy bills."
The boos came when Mr Miliband said: "You know, I'm not Tony Blair. I'm my own man."
Speaking to his own conference some days later David Cameron mocked the Labour reaction.
"We don't boo our leaders," he said.
"We're proud of our past and what those people did for our country."
