Hague: Hotel room allegations ‘a big lie’

William Hague has branded the allegation that he had a sexual relationship with a man he later employed as a special advisor “a big lie”.
The foreign secretary was briefly engulfed by the allegations last week when he released a lengthy personal statement admitting he had shared a hotel room with Christopher Myers, but insisting he had not had a sexual relationship with him.
The statement included a lengthy passage revealing he and his wife were struggling to have children. Many media commentators questioned whether such a lengthy and revealing statement was sensible, but the row did not survive the weekend.
“Thanks for another day of very supportive comments,” Mr Hague tweeted this morning.
“What was said about me was a big lie which I hope has been nailed. I am enjoying my work.”
Mr Myers resigned from his post over the coverage.
