More poll misery for Lib Dems
By politics.co.uk staff
A third of those who backed the Liberal Democrats at the general election would not do so now, according to a ComRes poll for the Independent.
The latest bad polling news for Britain’s third party came after two polls at the weekend put the Lib Dems on 16%, seven points worse than their actual share of the vote in last month’s general election.
Today’s poll from ComRes put the Lib Dems on 18%, slipping five per cent. It is their worst poll rating by ComRes since the election and their second worst for six months.

Two Lib Dem MPs, Bob Russell and Mike Hancock, voted against the Budget yesterday evening as disquiet within the party worsened.
And the strategic gamble of entering into a formal coalition deal with the Conservatives appears to have backfired in the short-term, at least. Of the Lib Dem voters who would now turn elsewhere, most would turn to Labour rather than the Tories.
David Cameron’s party stood on 40%, up four points from the last ComRes poll on June 20th.
Labour was up one point on 31%. The other parties were unchanged on 11%.
