The Odds: Clegg favourite to be home secretary
By Sam Dale
Nick Clegg has been installed as the favourite to become home secretary by a betting company.
Ladbrokes has the Liberal Democrat leader at 4/1 to take the post in the next government.
The betting firm put him ahead of current home secretary Alan Johnson, who is not even given odds, and his Conservative counterpart Chris Grayling at 5/1.
The odds reflect the polls pointing towards a hung parliament with the Lib Dems in a coalition with the Tories or Labour.
A leaked document in today’s Sun newspaper reveals that the Lib Dems could demand up to six cabinet positions in a hung parliament.
One can also take a punt on Lord Ashcroft or former holder of the position Jacqui Smith at 200/1.
George Osborne is 1/3 clear frontrunner for the Chancellor job with Vince Cable at 4/1.
The Conservatives are evens to win the most seats with Labour at 10/1 and the Lib Dems at 34/1.
