The odds: Brown under fire
Paddy Power has pushed out Gordon Brown’s election odds following his gaffe today.
Having been caught calling a voter “bigoted” after listening to her views on immigration, bookies believe that Labour chances to win most seats have shrunk from 4/1 to 5/1.
Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “This is certainly a case of foot in mouth but is it also likely to prove to be one foot in the grave?
“At the very least it’s not done Gordon any favours and the odds have drifted accordingly.”
The incident has also damaged Brown’s chances of remaining prime minister as Paddy Power pushes the odds from 10/3 from 5/1.
Following the episode, Nick Clegg repeated he would not work with Brown as PM in the event of a coalition with Labour.
The remark has had an effect on Brown’s chances to win Thursday’s BBC debate. Paddy Power has lengthened odds to 5/1 from 11/4.
The debacle also affected the odds on who will be PM after the general election. Accordingly, odds have shortened for both the the Conservative s (1/4 from 2/7) and the Lib Dem ( 9/1 to 8/1) keeping Clegg as the outsider.
