The polls: Tory lead slashed to three

The Conservative lead has been slashed to just three points according to a new poll out today, raising the possibility of Labour emerging from the campaign as the largest party.
A Populus poll for the Times put the Tories down three on 36% and Labour on 33%. The Liberal Democrats, who unveil their manifesto today, remain unchanged on 21%.
Interestingly, the poll suggests voters would prefer a hung parliament to any particular party gaining power.

Thirty-two per cent said they hope for a hung parliament, against 28% who want a Tory majority and 22% who want a Labour majority.
Elsewhere the poll reflects public dissatisfaction with the campaign, with just four per cent saying parties are being completely honest with the public about their tax plans.
Forty-three per cent said they were unconvinced by any party.
Things were looking rosier for the Conservatives at the Sun’s daily YouGov poll, with the Conservatives unchanged on 39%, Labour down two on 31% and the Lib Dems unchanged on 20%.
The poll still puts the Conservatives below 40%, however, indicating the opposition will struggle to emerge from the election with a majority in the Commons.
