Gordon Brown paid tribute to former Labour leader Michael Foot today, at his funeral in Golders Green.
The non-religious service in north London was attended by the prime minister and his wife, Cherie Blair, Alastair Campbell, Peter Hain and Labour MP Dennis Skinner, as well as Melvyn Bragg.
“We mourn today for one of our own,” Mr Brown said.
“He graced the country and, for those of us privileged to know him, he graced all of our lives.”
The prime minister described Mr Foot, who died earlier this month at the age of 96, as “one of the most elegant of orators, one of the greatest parliamentarians ever”.
Around 160 mourners attended the funeral.
