The families of those killed in Iraq have been contacted to give evidence to the Iraq inquiry.

About 50 families have confirmed they wish to speak to the committee.

Meetings will be held in Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and Belfast later this month, but will begin in London.

The sessions comprise part of the lengthy research phase of the inquiry, before it conducts its first public hearings later this year.

Thousands of government documents will be scrutinised in an inquiry which covers events from summer 2001 to July 2009.

The public nature of the inquiry was only established after lobbying from opposition parties. It is expected to conclude its findings sometime in 2011.
