Brown rounds on Syria and Iran over Iraq attacks
Gordon Brown has rounded on Syria and Iran for their role in the Iraq conflict.
Speaking on his rturn to the UK from a rtip to the region, Mr Brown told the House of Commons both countries needed to halt actions which were destablising their neighbour.
He said Syria was still providing foreign fighters, and Iran arms and training.
Mr Brown also reiterated plans for a “fundamental change of mission” in the first part of 2009.
He rejected calls for an inquiry into the Iraq war, saying it was too early while troops are still in theatre.
Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg said families of those in Iraq had every reason to disbelief the current announcement given the inconsistencies in previous promises of withdrawl. He also called for an increase in troop numbers in Afghanistan as withdrawls from Iraq occur.
Mr Clegg also pushed the prime minister to say he would denounce any attack by Israel on Iran.
