Labour appoints new general secretary
The Labour party has appointed Peter Watt as its new general secretary, it was announced today.
The 36-year-old is currently the Labour party’s director of finance and compliance, and he will take over the role of general secretary from Matt Carter.
Tony Blair said: “Peter Watt has an excellent record of service to our party having worked at a local, regional and national level with distinction.
“As someone committed to renewing the Labour party and broadening our base of supporters, I have no doubt he will lay the right organisational foundations for an unprecedented fourth general election victory.”
Mr Watt said he was looking forward “to working in my new role with stakeholders across the party – members, trade unionists, those in affiliated organisations and staff”.
