Stress ‘rife’ in NHS

More than half of NHS organisations believe that their employees may be suffering from stress, according to a new report.

The study by NHS employers has been published today to coincide with national stress awareness day.

It findings show that more than 60 per cent of NHS employers believe their staff suffer from workplace stress.

NHS head of workplace health and employment Julian Topping said that many employees did not recognise they were suffering from stress “until it was too late”, and that quite often they did not know what to do about it.

“Lots of advice and information about stress already exists and many NHS organisations are already doing a lot to tackle it,” he said.

“However, our research shows that a lot more can be done. We want more staff and employers to take stress seriously and know where they can go to get advice and help.”
