Blast at UK embassy
An explosion at Croatia’s British embassy has left one member of staff injured, the Foreign Office has confirmed.
The blast, thought to have been caused by a letterbomb device, occurred in the mail room of the Zagreb office at about 06:30 BST this morning.
The injured person is being treated for minor injuries, but it is not known whether the person is British or Croatian.
Security has been stepped up as a result of the blast and local police are investigating, but there is not thought to have been any specific threat to the embassy ahead of the blast.
A foreign office spokesman confirmed that ambassador Sir John Ramsden is on the scene and that they are unaware of any claims of responsibility.
Anti-EU sentiment in the former Yugoslav republic has been on the increase of late and threats against western embassies are believed to have been made in March.
