Gate Gourmet faced with administration
Gate Gourmet could go into administration after its involvement in the strikes that grounded British Airways flights more than a week ago, the Transport and General Union has warned.
Brendan Gold, T&G union’s national secretary, made the admission amid press reports claiming the in-flight catering firm is on the brink of administration.
Gate Gourmet, whose decision to sack 680 catering staff 12 days ago precipitated a sympathy walkout the next day by BA staff, has issued an ultimatum to Europe’s third biggest carrier.
The company’s chairman and chief executive David Siegel wrote to Mike Street, BA’s director of customer service and operations, on Friday night stating administrators would be called in if talks failed to finalise a new supply contract by 19:00 BST on Tuesday evening.
Workers sacked by Gate Gourmet will meet today near Heathrow to hear a rallying call by T&G leaders.
