London: Most cost effective city for students
Students going to university in London have the most cost effective education in the country, a new report reveals.
A Royal Bank of Scotland report states that while cost of studying in the capital is more than anywhere else, there is also a greater chance to earn money.
Students living in London spend on average £243 a week – £7,290 over an academic year. But undergraduates earn £4,500 over the same period. This means students making a net loss of just £93 a week, the report reveals.
London works out the most cost effective city because of the supply of part-time jobs in bars, clothes shops and marketing companies. Students also earn an average of £8.67 there compared to the national average of £6.02.
Two students in every five (40 per cent) now work an average of 16 hours a week during term-time.
