Teacher training quality at six-year high

The quality of teacher training has improved and is better than any other time in the last six years, according to a new survey.

More than 10,000 newly qualified teachers were questioned by the Teacher Training Agency (TTA), of whom 84 per cent rated their training as good or very good.

TTA executive director Graham Holley said: “Training providers in schools, colleges and universities are producing newly qualified teachers who are well prepared for their first posts – Ofsted said recently they are the best ever.”

But Mr Holley warned it was important that training staff continue to work hard improve standards and help trainees to “teach pupils from diverse backgrounds and to manage their classrooms effectively”.
