Lib Dems call for eBay charity site
Online auction group eBay is being urged to set up a charity auction site.
The calls come after the company ceded to Bob Geldof’s request to remove Live 8 tickets from its site.
Liberal Democrat DCMS spokesman Don Foster said it was time to act against other charity ticket touts.
Mr Foster said: “The public’s fury at the sick profiteering over Live 8 shows that eBay can no longer afford to ignore its social responsibility in this area.”
He added: “eBay’s climb down on Live 8 mustn’t obscure the way in which bogus charitable auctioneers have profited in the past and will do so again unless eBay acts now.”
Ebay runs a charity auction section on its American website.
