Dramatic decline in food poisoning

There has been a “dramatic decline” in food poisoning rates in the UK according to the Food and Drink Federation.

Recorded cases of food poisoning in the UK have dropped by almost 17,000 since 2001, from about 96,000 to 78,921.

Martin Paterson, FDF deputy director general, described the drop in recorded cases of food poisoning as “great news” but warned that more work needed to be done to raise awareness of food hygiene issues in order to cut cases further.

“While our new survey shows that people are getting better at preventative actions such as washing hands after handling raw meats, there are still too many cases,” he said.
