Night flying consultation opens

Night flying consultation opens

The second stage of the Government’s consultation on night flights at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted has opened.

The consultation document envisages the current controls remaining until October 2006, sets out its proposals for new controls up to 2012, and sets out the Government’s environmental and noise objectives.

It also asks for views on the length of the night quota period – a potential lengthening to 2300 to 0700 – although the Government wants to retain the current six and half hour window.

Aviation Minister Karen Buck, said: “I urge everyone with a view about night flights at the three London airports to read the consultation document and send us their comments.”

She also called on the industry in particular to “provide any evidence supporting the economic case for night flights.”

The consultation is open until 16 September and can be viewed here.
