Free Bryson book for schools
Secondary schools across the UK are set to receive a copy of Bill Bryson’s best-selling A Short History of Nearly Everything .
It is hoped that the book – which deals with subjects ranging from the big bang to the origins of civilisation – will help stimulate interest in science.
The book has so far sold over two million copies in the UK and last year won the Royal Society Aventis Prize for science.
Schools minister Lord Adonis said: “Science doesn’t have to be hard – and this book is a good example of science being made simple and fun to learn.”
He added: “I hope it will motivate and encourage more children to take up science and deliver the scientists of the future.”
The cost of distributing the book to schools will be met in part by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
