Rail Passengers Council chair resigns
The chairman of the Rail Passengers Council has resigned due to ill health.
Stewart Francis was first appointed chair of the RPC in February 2000. He was also due to head up the revamped RPC – in which regional committees will be merged into a single, GB wide organisation – when it comes into existence in July.
The Government still anticipates that the revamped organisation will start in July, but there has been no word yet on a replacement for Mr Francis.
Transport Secretary Alistair Darling, said: “Stewart has been the key architect of the organisation’s reform and his contribution over the last year in particular has been vital.”
“His involvement in the RPC network and advocacy on behalf of rail passengers over the last eight years must also be commended. I wish him well for the future.”
