Real tug of war for MPs and Lords
Confrontations between the House of Lords and the Commons were a key feature of the last Parliament – but now it is for real.
MPs and peers are to take part in a tug of war contest on 21 June at Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster in support of cancer relief.
The annual Macmillan Cancer Relief challenge – now in its 18th year – hopes to raise £135,000 for people living with cancer.
James Gray MP will be leading the men’s MPs team against the peers, led by the Earl of Courtown with other showcase events including a match between female MPs and peers. For the media, a Westminster contingent of broadcast journalists will be taking on their print rivals.
