Labour appeals for funds
The Labour Party has launched a last minute appeal for funds to fight the final week of the election campaign.
The Conservatives have been outgunning Labour in the fundraising stakes, having raised £750,000 more than Labour in the last fortnight, according to returns filed with the Electoral Commission.
In an email to party supporters, general secretary Matt Carter said that Labour would make a decision after 2200 tonight on final campaign funding.
Accusing the Tories of running a negative campaign to depress Labour’s vote, he said: “Donate today – so tomorrow we can make the difference that will bring home a Labour government on 5 May. Your donation will mean we can make decisions tonight on our campaign strategy, not our financial constraints.”
