Greenpeace protestors scale Prescott’s roof
Greenpeace protestors have managed to scale John Prescott’s roof and have attempted to fit solar panelling to his house.
Unveiling a poster reading “Oi 2 jags! Hit targets, not voters”, the protestors fitted solar panelling and left low energy lightbulbs and loft insulation outside his front door.
Mr Prescott is out campaigning around the country at the moment so was not at his house, although it is believed his wife was there.
Activists say the Deputy Prime Minister was targeted because as the minister responsible for housing, he is putting Britain’s climate targets at risk by failing to make UK homes more energy efficient.
With homes accounting for a quarter of the UK’s C02 emissions, Greenpeace says that without action the UK will miss its targets to reduce climate change.
Laura Yates, one of the activists, said: “The Deputy PM’s got a reputation for straight-talking but since the election kicked off we’ve heard barely a squeak about climate change from big hitters like him.
“As long as the average existing British house is responsible for six tonnes of CO2 every year he’s not dealing with the climate crisis. He’s in danger of hitting more voters than climate targets. Whoever wins on May 5 needs to get serious about energy efficiency.”
