Labour on course to win third term in office
With just 11 days to go before the May 5 general election, Labour remains on course to win an historic third term in office, according to two new opinion polls.
A YouGov survey for The Sunday Times forecasted Labour would claim 37 per cent of the vote, up one point on a week ago, with the Conservatives securing 33 per cent, down two, and the Liberal Democrats unchanged on 23 per cent.
The vote of confidence for Labour came with a caveat attached as seventy per cent of respondents said they believed the Government had lost control of asylum and immigration, with 58 per cent saying Tory leader Michael Howard was right to press home the issue.
Over two thirds (68 per cent) said it was not racist to raise immigration concerns
Meanwhile, an ICM poll for The Sunday Telegraph put Labour on 39 per cent, with the Tories on 33 and the Lib Dems Democrats on 21.
The YouGov poll shows Labour consolidating its lead over the Tories but the ICM poll indicated the gap had narrowed, as Labour held a 10-point lead last weekend.
Both polls predict Labour will win another landslide victory albeit with a reduced majority.
