Election Diary – Saturday 23 April
The focus of the campaign this weekend switches to rural and international development issues. Labour is expected to unveil its rural manifesto and the Liberal Democrats will also be talking about rural affairs whilst the Conservatives will issue a general rally call to their supporters.
Labour
- Labour is expected to launch its rural affairs manifesto.
- Gordon Brown, Alistair Darling and Douglas Alexander will hold a press conference in Edinburgh on international development (1230).
Conservatives
- Michael Howard will be campaigning in the South East of England and be speaking in Hastings (1130).
Liberal Democrats
- Charles Kennedy will be visiting Scotland and campaigning in Inverness.
- Liberal Democrat president Simon Hughes will be present in Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden for the St George’s Day celebrations.
Christian Peoples Alliance
- The Christian Peoples Alliance (CPA) will launch its general election manifesto today in London (1400).
SNP
- Alex Salmond will today unveil their latest poster on health and set out their plans for the NHS.
- Mr Salmond will also be campaigning in the Highlands and promoting the SNP’s policy to introduce a Road Fuel Regulator, so that fuel duties drop as the price of oil rises.
Plaid Cymru
- Plaid Cymru are launching a new campaign poster in South West Wales centring on the NHS. (1030)

- The BNP will use St George’s Day to launch its election manifesto.
