Kennedy pledges to fight election on ‘real issues’
Charles Kennedy has pledged to fight a clean general election campaign based on “the real issues, not yah-boo politics”.
With the Labour Party and the Conservative Party coming to blows over immigration and asylum, the Liberal Democrat Leader argued that this was a sensitive issue and not for “political posturing”.
Addressing Liberal Democrat candidates in London, Mr Kennedy further maintained that while Britain was “a fortunate country – and a good country to live in”, improvements could and should be made.
The Lib Dems were ambitious for Britain, he continued, and Lib Dem policy would create a more just society with improved public services, a fairer pensions system and a fairer taxation system.
He promised to “talk Britain up” over the course of the election.
