Labour email appeal raises £50,000
A Labour Party appeal for donations toward its election-fighting fund has raised £50,000 in less than 24-hours.
In an email sent to Labour supporters on Thursday, the party said it “badly needs money to fight this election campaign and I’m afraid the time has come to ask you for a donation”. What people would really be paying towards was “the return of a Labour government”, it added.
A follow-up email circulated to supporters on Friday, said the party had been “overwhelmed” by the response to Thursday’s email appeal, where over £50,000 had been donated.
Labour now wants to double that figure, saying: “If you can help us double that amount to £100,000 by next week, that will be an incredible boost to the campaigns in our key seats. The Tories have always had a money advantage. They’re using that advantage right now…”
