Voters see Brown as Labour’s main asset
Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown is seen as Labour’s main electoral asset, according to a new poll.
The YouGov poll for The Telegraph found that 63 per cent of voters thought that Mr Brown was an electoral asset, compared to 34 per cent for Tony Blair.
Coming just two days after the Budget, 52 per cent said that Mr Brown was doing the best job, while 17 per cent stuck with the Prime Minister.
Forty eight per cent said Mr Blair was a liability to Labour; 16 per cent thought Mr Brown was.
In terms of budget approval, Mr Brown’s ninth delivery was adjudged “fair” by 44 per cent of voters.
Over half (56 per cent) said he had successfully brought stability to the economy.
But six out of ten (63 per cent) agreed with Tory leader Michael Howard’s view that it was a “vote now, pay later” budget with tax rises inevitable after the election.
YouGov asked 1,303 adults across Britain on March 16 and 17.
