Parliament to mark 400th anniversary of gunpowder plot

The Palace of Westminster is planning a series of events in 2005 to mark the 400th anniversary of the plot to blow-up Parliament.

On 5 November 1605 Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators attempted to blow-up the House of Lords during the state opening of Parliament.

Four hundred years on, Parliament is organising a series of commemorative events – marketed as the “Gunpowder trail”.

Among the events on offer will be an exhibition at Westminster Hall on the historical background, an audio-visual display at the Tower of London, and Guy Fawkes’ signed confession will be on display at the National Archives. See the full programme of events, most of which begin in July.
