New plan for horse industry
Equestrians across the UK are being urged to unite, and comment on, plans for the first-ever national strategy for the horse industry.
A draft strategy has been launched by the British Horse Industry Confederation, the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Department for Culture Media and Sport and the Welsh Assembly.
It aims to raise skills and standards in the industry, boost its economic performance, increase access to off-road riding, improve breeding quality and encourage sporting excellence.
Alun Michael, Minister for the Horse, said: “This draft strategy is a landmark in the recognition of the importance of the horse industry and its contribution to national life. For the first time the industry has come together to plan its future, with the encouragement of Government.”
