Final meeting for Africa Commission
The Africa Commission, headed by Prime Minister Tony Blair, is holding its final meeting in London today.
The commission will report next month and is expected to appeal for more aid, fairer trade, less debt and a tougher stance against African corruption.
It is thought the final meeting will mostly revolve around issues of implementation and discussing strategies for building international support ahead of the G8 summit in July.
Committee member Bob Geldof promised it would not just be a talking shop but would deliver radical new thinking to change direction for Africa.
Observers suggest that there has been a constant tension between ambitions and action during the discussion process but it is hoped the commission will have something new to say.
Two African government leaders and a range of other African politicians join experts from developed countries in today’s talks.
