Veritas promises halt to ‘mass immigration’
Low-paid foreign workers and asylum seekers from Europe and “safe” nations will be stopped from entering Britain, Robert Kilroy-Silk’s Veritas party pledged yesterday.
Unveiling its asylum and immigration policies, Veritas said it wanted a clamp down on “mass immigration” and see more done to help British people find work.
Mr Kilroy-Silk MEP – who left UKIP after his leadership challenge failed – said he wanted an “honest debate” on the issue of immigration.
He claimed that only the landlord, the rich and the employer benefited from imported foreign labour.
Mr Kilroy-Silk told a Westminster press conference that: “The people who pay, who lose out, who have to pay the social cost of the increased pressure on their housing, on their social services, on their hospitals and schools are the poor bloody British, as always.”
Downplaying claims of racism and prejudice, he said his concern was one of “numbers”.
And he said it was “immoral” to recruit trained staff from poor countries instead of training British workers.
Veritas – which wants to exit the European Union – said a “fair share” of genuine refugees could travel to the UK under the auspices of the United Nations, with workers benefiting Britain economically also welcomed.
He added it was “absurd” that the asylum system cost taxpayers £147,000 per successful applicant.
