Kilroy-Silk to contest Erewash seat
Robert Kilroy-Silk is to contest the Derbyshire seat of Erewash at the next general election.
The seat is currently held by Labour’s Elizabeth Blackman, a former teacher who won the constituency in 1997 with a 6,932 majority.
Erewash has long been a marginal constituency and had been held by the Conservatives since 1970.
Mr Kilroy-Silk announced his intentions the day after he launched Veritas, which he says will revolutionise British politics through straight talking on asylum, immigration and will “not tolerate the bullying and the intimidation by the liberal elite in London.”
The 62-year-old promised a “firm but fair” policy on “uncontrolled” immigration, adding that “our country” had been “stolen from us” by foreigners.
“I will speak up for the British people, for British customs, for British traditions,” he said.
Labour campaign spokesman Fraser Kemp said that: “Veritas joins an already crowded field on the right of British politics.”
Veritas says it will field candidates across the country at the general election, expected in May.
UKIP has said it was glad to see the back of Mr Kilroy-Silk.
Separately, David McGrath, the man who covered Mr Kilroy-Silk with a bucket of slurry in December, has walked free from court.
Mr McGrath was given a conditional discharge at Manchester Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to three charges of causing criminal damage and one public order offence.
