Labour pledge ‘forward not back’
In a further sign that a general election is imminent, the Labour Party has officially launched its election slogan.
Replacing its current “Britain is working” slogan, the new ditty will read: “Britain. Forward, not back”
In a nod to old Labour “Britain” is printed on a red background, while “Forward not back” is on green.
General election co-ordinator Alan Milburn revealed the poster after a political cabinet meeting. He said: “New Labour is what has given us our political strength and allowed us to make the positive changes we have made so far. A continuing new Labour agenda for the future is what will help us maintain that strength, and make more and lasting change for the people we represent.”
Mr Milburn said that a third-term Labour government would “renew our country and takes Britain forward to a better future not back to a failed past under the Tories.”
The new slogan comes only two days after a selection of posters were put on the party’s website so members could vote on their favourite.
The Conservatives have also launched a series of poster campaigns, and today launched their education manifesto, promising better vocational education.
Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy today pitched for the student vote by stressing his opposition to the war in Iraq and promising to scrap tuition fees and act on the environment.
Despite all this campaigning activity, the Prime Minister remains coy about a likely date for the general election.
However, everyone in Westminster has cleared their diaries for May 5.
