Kilroy-Silk plans to change face of British politics
Former chatshow host Robert Kilroy-Silk today set out plans to “change the face of British politics” by telling people the truth.
Launching his new political party, Veritas, which is Latin for ‘truth’, Mr Kilroy-Silk accused the “old parties” of engaging in “lies evasion and spin”.
He was particularly critical of the state of the asylum and immigration system in Britain, saying: “Our country is being stolen from us.”
And he questioned how Tony Blair and Michael Howard could claim that they could control asylum when “we no longer control our own borders”.
The East Midlands MEP resigned from the eurosceptic UK Independence Party after failing to oust leader Roger Knapman.
He has since described several UKIP members as “bloody right-wing fascist nutters”.
Richard Vass, chairman of Veritas, told assembled press that the party had ambitions to field a candidate in every constituency in the UK and stressed that it was not just about one man.
He added: “This is not a fringe party, a focus group or a pressure group,” he said, imploring people with similar beliefs to “rally behind the Veritas banner”.
Mr Kilroy-Silk said the old parties “have been rumbled”.
“The British people are sick and tired of being lied to. They are fed up with being taken for granted and talked down to and patronised. They are fed up to the back teeth of being told what they can think and what they can say.”
He said the British people “want politicians that are open, transparent, straightforward and tell the truth”.
The party will be putting forward “new and radical” policies over the coming days and weeks, including on Europe.
