Radiographers march against pay reforms
Hundreds of radiographers are to rally in Trafalgar Square this afternoon.
Members of the Society of Radiographers are protesting against controversial pay reforms, which include the introduction of longer hours without additional pay.
Radiographers claim the changes will lead to the loss of experienced staff and increased waiting times for patients.
Around 16,000 diagnostic and therapy radiographers are considering industrial action early next year.
In a recent ballot, 83 per cent of members voted against the Agenda for Change, the proposed new National Health Service pay and benefits package.
Ann Pollard, President of the Society of Radiographers, said: “Our members find it unacceptable that their working hours will be increased for no additional pay and there will be lower remuneration for on-call and emergency duties.
“There are also no incentives to attract and retain staff. This will mean even longer waiting times for diagnostic tests, cardiac treatment procedures and cancer services.”
Several hundred radiographers are expected to join the rally in central London between 14:00 GMT and 15:30 GMT this afternoon.
Members of the Amicus trade union, which represents 80,000 health service workers, voted this week to accept the Agenda for Change.
Agenda for Change will alter pay, terms and conditions for all NHS staff, with the exception of doctors, dentists and senior managers.
