Lib Dem Marsden diagnosed with bone tumour
Liberal Democrat MP Paul Marsden has been diagnosed with a bone tumour on his shoulder.
Mr Marsden, MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, has pledged to carry on as working as normal despite the diagnosis.
The tumour, which was discovered following extensive tests, is reportedly the size of a golf ball.
Mr Marsden defected to the Liberal Democrats from Labour in 2001 after speaking out against the war in Afghanistan.
He announced in July that he would not be standing for re-election at the next General Election.
In a separate development, the Liberal Democrats have announced the appointment of Lord Navnit Dholakia of Waltham Brooks and Lord William Wallace of Saltaire as joint deputy leaders in the House of Lords.
It follows an election that ended in a dead heat.
Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy said: “I am delighted that our strengthened and growing House of Lords team will now be served by a joint deputy leadership.”
