Blair expresses ‘utter revulsion’ over Bigley murder
Prime minister Tony Blair has condemned the murder of British hostage Ken Bigley, expressing his ‘utter revulsion’ at those who perpetrated the act.
The family of the 62-year-old engineer from Liverpool on Friday night confirmed he had been murdered by his captors in Iraq.
Mr Bigley is thought to have been beheaded by a group led by Jordanian militant, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
Mr Bigley was captured on September 15, along with two US citizens, both of whom were beheaded soon after.
Mr Blair expressed “desperate” sorrow for Mr Bigley and his family, who he said, had conducted themselves with “extraordinary dignity and courage.”
“I feel utter revulsion at the people who did this, not just at the barbaric nature of the killing, but the way frankly they have played with the situation for the past few weeks,” he said.
Mr Blair stressed the kidnappersf actions must not prevail over those who “want to make Iraq a better place.h
Mr Bigley’s younger brother Philip said there was “absolute proof” he had been murdered.
