Jim Marshall MP dies
The Labour MP for Leicester South, Jim Marshall, has died aged 63.
The Labour Party has reported that Mr Marshall suffered a heart attack in his constituency office this afternoon
Jim Marshall worked as a former research scientist and lecturer at what was once Leicester Polytechnic.
A former leader of Leicester City Council, he was first elected for this seat in 1974 and held it until the Conservative landslide in 1983. He was re-elected in 1987 and held his seat until the present day.


Commenting on the news, Prime Minister Tony Blair stated, ” The whole Labour Party is shocked to hear of the death of Jim Marshall.
“He was a very popular figure in parliament and in his constituency of Leicester South. He was a great advocate for his community and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his family at this very said and difficult time.”
