Campbell comes under egg attack
Former Downing Street spin chief Alastair Campbell was pelted with eggs during a visit to a Bristol college.
As he left a discussion session with politics and media students at the City of Bristol College on Tuesday afternoon, Mr Campbell came under attack from a group of four students throwing eggs.
The former government head of communications was not hit be any of the dairy missiles, but his Volkswagen car was covered in yolks.
Mr Campbell was visiting the college before he presented An Audience with Alastair Campbell at the Bristol’s Colston Hall. He played down the incident when he spotted two of the culprits in the audience.
“You are the people who threw the eggs at me earlier … are you going to find some rashers of bacon?” he joked.
Mr Campbell added: I go to schools and universities wherever I go to talk about politics, and that is far more important than a lot of people who want to waste eggs that would be put to better use on a plate.”
A group of 30 campaigners carrying anti-government banners and chanting anti-Blair slogans greeted Mr Campbell as he arrived at the hall
The City of Bristol College has announced that it is investigating the egg incident and appropriate action would be taken if necessary.
The prime minister was pelted with tomatoes outside the same college in 2001, when he officially opened the campus.
