Tehran denies hiding nuclear components

UN nuclear inspectors in Iran claim to have found undeclared components of an advanced uranium enrichment centrifuge, according to press reports.

The components were reportedly found at an Iranian military installation.

Experts say the equipment could be used to enrich uranium, a key component in a nuclear bomb.

Iran resolutely sticks to the line that it has never aimed to possess WMD and says it only has nuclear technology to upgrade the country’s domestic electricity supply.

Tehran insists it made a full declaration of its nuclear technology to the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in October.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters: “Iran’s nuclear activities are entirely peaceful and Iran has not had and nor does it have military nuclear activities.”

It is reported the parts are compatible with the “P2” uranium-enrichment centrifuge, a Pakistani version of the advanced Western “G2” design.

The IAEA declined to comment on the report.
