Maxine Carr’s mother in the dock
Maxine Carr’s mother is to face trial for allegedly intimidating a witness in the Soham murder case.
60-year old Shirley Capp is accused of intimidating Marian Westerman on May 13th last year.
Though Ms Capp denied the charge at a hearing at Grimsby Crown Court, Judge John Reddihough at another hearing earlier this month, set a provisional trial date for May 17th.
The charge read: “On May 13th, 2003, knowing or believing that Marian Elizabeth Westerman was a witness in proceedings for an offence, did an act, namely made threats, which intimidated and was intended to intimidate Marian Elizabeth Westerman, intending thereby to cause the course of justice to be obstructed, perverted or interfered with.”
Ms Capp is on conditional bail. She was not in court on Thursday.
Maxine Carr was convicted in December of conspiring to pervert the course of justice following the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
Her former partner, school caretaker Ian Huntley, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The story could not be reported previously for legal reasons.
