Frenchman scoops first EuroMillions jackpot
A bettor in France has won ten million pounds in Europe’s first cross-border lottery.
And on home soil, a Brit claimed to have won GBP112,551 in the draw on Friday in Paris, which attracts gamblers from Britain, France and Spain.
The winning numbers were 16, 29, 32, 36, and 41, and the winning Lucky Star numbers were 7 and 9.
Seven Brits won GBP8,155 each when they matched four numbers and two Lucky Star numbers.
The lottery is run by Camelot, France’s La Francaise des Jeux and Spain’s Loterias y Apuestas del Estado.
Tickets for the EuroMillions game cost GBP1.50 in Britain and two euros in France and Spain.
Camelot claims there is a one in 24 chance of winning a prize.
The odds of matching all seven numbers and winning the jackpot are just over one in 76 million.
To win the lot players must choose five correct numbers from a list of one to 50, then two numbers from one to nine from a Lucky Star panel on the play slip.
The prize draw will take place in Paris every Friday and will be shown live on Sky One at 21:00 GMT in the UK.
The ticket is shared in the same way as the GBP1 Lotto game, with fifty per cent going into the prize fund, twenty eight per cent to good causes, twelve per cent to the government in tax, five per cent to retailers, and the same amount to operators to cover costs and profits.
