Diana’s secret tapes to be aired
Tapes secretly recorded by Diana, Princess of Wales, detailing the breakdown of her marriage to Prince Charles are to be screened for the first time on television.
The hour of video and seven hours of audio tapes were the main source for Andrew Morton’s 1992 best seller, Diana: Her True Story.
It is understood the audio tapes were secretly recorded at Kensington Palace following written questions submitted by Mr Morton.
US television network NBC is to screen the tapes of Diana, Princess of Wales, describing her marital breakdown with Prince Charles.
The Princess reportedly speaks of Charles’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, her struggle with bulimia and suicidal tendencies.
She also discusses her relationships with other members of the Royal family.
NBC said it had bought the rights to the audio and video tapes.
The tapes also include footage with some of Diana’s closest friends, and depicts a “relaxed, candid Diana at times laughing and interacting with her young sons, illustrating the lighter side of a woman who maintained a very reserved public persona.”
The two-part TV special is to be aired on March 4 and 11.
The news comes after the Royal Coroner recently ordered a fresh inquiry into the Princess’s death.
