Carr release rejected
Maxine Carr was today told that her application for early release from prison has been turned down.
Ms Carr was hoping to be freed from jail under a government scheme that would have required her to wear an electronic tag.
Last month the government changed the rules for early release applications to allow prisons boss Martin Narey to intervene in high profile cases.
Ms Carr is currently serving a three-and-a-half-year sentence for perverting the course of justice during the investigation into the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
Her former boyfriend Ian Huntley was jailed for life last year for the double killing.
According to reports, the decision was taken because of concerns about Ms Carr’s safety if she was released.
The government was also concerned about the impact of such a high profile release on public confidence in the criminal justice system.
