Boozy Best arrested over assault charges
Ex-Manchester United star George Best spent 10 hours in police custody last night on suspicion of causing assault.
The 57-year old was arrested at 0200 GMT on Friday in Reigate, Surrey; the town where he lived with his estranged wife Alex.
Speculation mounts that he beat up his wife, Alex.
But Surrey Police said no allegations were being pursued, “by any party.”
Mr Best was released without charge after the questioning.
Mr Best’s wife left him after he continued drinking binges, despite being told they could kill him.
Mr Best is believed to have spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day on the booze at a pub in Chelsea, London.
Alex said last night: “We just wanted a nice Christmas. It was meant to be amicable. He started drinking and then this happened.”
