US issues Bahrain attack warning
The US government has issued a warning of a possible terrorist attack against western targets in the gulf state of Bahrain after receiving specific intelligence.
Bahrain is one of the most pro-West countries in the Middle East and is home to the US naval headquarters for the region.
Earlier this week the government in Bahrain praised the US for its plans to hand over sovereignty in Iraq.
The US itself is currently on its highest state of alert since September 11th, with homeland security secretary Tom Ridge warning that intelligence reports had suggested an attack of similar magnitude was being planned.
American citizens in Bahrain have been warned against unnecessary travel and told to avoid popular western hangouts.
Yesterday officials in Washington took part in a drill designed to simulate a major terror attack on the capital.
