Zawahri tape “most likely” authentic
The CIA says the audio tape purportedly from a top al Qaeda leader, aired on Arab TV on Friday, was “most likely” the voice of Ayman al-Zawahri.
Al Qaeda is blamed for the September 11, 2001 World Trade Centre atrocities.
Mr Zawahri is a top deputy to Osama bin Laden,
Arabic satellite television TV station al Jazeera aired the tape which stated the terror group was chasing Americans everywhere, including their “homeland.”
The warning came as US intelligence officials warned of a new terror threat to New York.
The voice of the tape said: “America has been defeated (by) our fighters despite all its military might, its weaponry.
With God’s help we are still chasing Americans and their allies everywhere, including their homeland.”
Mr Zawahri and bin Laden are believed to be in the mountainous border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
