Blair suffers second health blow
A spokesman has confirmed that a doctor was called to Downing Street last night after the prime minister complained of stomach pains.
Tony Blair reportedly began to feel unwell shortly after the Queen’s Speech.
He is believed to have had a second health check this afternoon, less than 24 hours after the first.
However, his spokesman insisted it was a minor complaint and he is now fine and will attend a scheduled cabinet meeting.
Downing Street said: “In response to newspaper speculation, a lot of it inaccurate, we can confirm that the prime minister saw a doctor because he was experiencing stomach ache.
“He was checked over, he is now fine. He is working in his flat and will be chairing cabinet as usual.”
The spokesman said no treatment had been required.
Last month Mr Blair needed hospital treatment when he was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia, in which the heart beats much faster than usual.
This second blow to the prime minister’s health is likely to raise further questions about the viability of his political future.
Mr Blair did not appear unwell during yesterday’s debate on the Queen’s Speechand appeared relaxed and in good humour as he battled with the Tories.
